    When I first stopped drinking, I studiously avoided discussing my sobriety at work or at social events BUT the reality is that Quitting alcohol has been fantastic

    NO, absolutely not! Quitting alcohol has been one of the most life-changing decisions I’ve ever made, not just for me but for my family as well. It’s incredible to think about the ripple effect this decision has had—reaching beyond my immediate circle and impacting so many others. When people ask me if I regret it, my answer is always an emphatic “no.” Here’s why…


    A Life-Changing Event

    Let’s start with the obvious: quitting alcohol wasn’t just about giving up a drink. It was about regaining control, clarity, and a sense of purpose. It required adjusting to a “new normal,” and while it’s not always easy, it’s so worth it. Life without alcohol doesn’t mean everything magically falls into place or feels instantly “normal.” Instead, it’s about redefining what normal looks like—a healthier, more intentional, and more authentic version of life.


    The Ripple Effect

    One of the most surprising aspects of quitting alcohol has been its impact on others. Whether it’s inspiring friends to rethink their own habits, encouraging someone to start their own journey, or simply being a positive role model, the change has gone beyond just me.     A Reminder of Why

    If I ever need a reminder of why I made this choice, all I have to do is turn on OPL (On Patrol Live) on Fridays and Saturdays. Watching how people behave under the influence is eye-opening. It’s embarrassing, sad, and even disgusting at times. For me, it’s a gentle but powerful nudge every weekend—a vivid picture of why I quit drinking and why I never want to go back.


    FOMO

    For those who have FOMO (the fear of missing out — which I don’t) I know you might be wondering in social drinking settings since I’m not drinking do I ever feel left out, or excluded? YES and NO.

    Do I feel excluded? Yes sometimes since drinking, and making small talk isn’t what I’d prefer to be doing with my time. Plus, I’m an introvert so social settings exhaust me and even give me anxiety!

    But, NO I never feel left out as in terms of missing out on something! In fact, I WANT to be left out and alone! I’d rather not be forced to hang out with any drunk or tipsy people! Much less spend any time explaining WHY I don’t drink to them, the list of reasons goes on…


    Embracing the “New Normal”

    The decision to quit drinking isn’t about finding a “new you” or achieving perfection. There is also no “going back to normal” instead It’s about learning to live fully and authentically in your “new normal.” It’s a journey that takes time, patience, and commitment, but the rewards far outweigh the challenges. From improved health and relationships to greater self-awareness, the benefits are endless.

    So, do I regret quitting drinking? Not for a second. It’s been a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and empowerment, and I’m grateful every day for the decision I made. If you’re considering taking the same step, know this: it’s not just about what you’re giving up. It’s about what you’re gaining—and that is everything.
